Writing & Research
Hunt’s writing and research grow directly out of his lived experience at the frontier of Christianity and psychedelics. As a writer, he crafts theological reflections and practical guides that translate the emerging science of psychedelic-assisted therapy into language that laypeople, pastors, chaplains, and seekers can understand and use, drawing on stories from ministry, contemplative practice, and his own sacramental imagination.
His scholarly work began as a participant in the pioneering Johns Hopkins/NYU psilocybin study for religious professionals. Since then, he has moved into the role of practitioner‑scholar, helping design spiritually grounded protocols and outcome measures for projects like the Home‑Based Psychedelic and Spiritual Care pilot in palliative and hospice care, co-authoring Psychedelic Christianity: From evangelical hippies and Roman
Catholic intellectuals in the sixties to clergy in a Johns Hopkins clinical trial, the lead article for the September 2024 issue of The Journal of Psychedelic Science, or the Journal of and co‑creating educational programs such as “Psychedelics 101 for Community Religious Leaders” that intentionally weave together clinical evidence, spiritual care theory, and practical ministry formation.
